Pocket Map Koh Chang : How to Go There?

Ko Chang is 315 kilometres away from Bangkok in the province of Trat. There are several ways of getting there: by air, air-conditioned bus, taxi, hire car or motorcyle.

To reach the Koh Chang Marine National Park you need to travel eastbound to Trat, the easternmost province in the Gulf of Thailand that borders Kampuchea. This is the jumping-off point to the islands. Most visitors take the Bangna-Trat route. However, visitors who are already in Pattaya, Rayong or Koh Samet can conveniently link to Trat as well, either by road or by sea.

Trat is accessible by three main routes from Bangkok. Travelling time is about 4 hours. For convenience and better road surface use the elevated Bangkok-Chonburi Tollway until its final exit or the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway and exit for Ban Bung-Klaeng-Chantaburi.

By Private car : Top

By hiring a private car or motorbike, you make the decisions as to how and when to travel. However, do make sure you bring an International Driving Permit with you or any hassles you encounter are entirely of your own making. Simply, the best way out of Bangkok is to take Highway 3 on the Bangna-Trat road until you reach the Chonburi bypass. Continue along this road, or take the elevated tollway, then take the exit for Klaeng on Highway 344. When you reach Klaeng, get back on to Highway 3 again (Highway 3 goes via Pattaya and Rayong, which you don't want). Continue on through Khlung and, from here, about half-way to Trat, turn off on to Highway 3156, the Laem Ngop-Saen Tung road, which will take you along the coast to the ferry ports.

By Air : Top

Trat Airport, owned and operated by Bangkok Airways, is located on the mainland near to Laem Ngop. At the moment flights operate to and from Bangkok taking about 40 minutes.
There are two daily flights to Trat from Bangkok.
The Trat office of Bangkok Airways can be reached on 039 525 299 and the number of the airport is 039 525 767-8.

The Ekamai Bus Terminal is the main terminal for the eastern provinces. It is located at Ekamai section of the Sukhumvit Road which is also easily accessible by the BTS Skytrain. Air-conditioned and ordinary buses depart almost every hour . The trip is about 5 hours.
The Northern Bus Terminal (New Morchid) is the other route. lt is located at New Morchid of the Kampaeng Petch Road. The trip is also about 5 hours.

By Taxi : Top

Getting out of Bangkok is always going to be troublesome unless you leave very late at night or early in the morning. But one of the most painless ways to travel is order a taxi that will take you all the way to the ferry port at Ko Chang. If you're a good negotiator, you can pay as little as +/-2,500 baht one way.

By Boat: Top

This is the main pier at Laem Ngob. Ferries from this pier land at Tha Dan Kao (meaning Old Post Pier). The ferries depart every hour during the high season (November to April) and long weekends starting from 7.30 am till 5.00 pm. The frequencyis less during othe rtimes of the year depending on the crowd, and the weather.
As the main pier, Laem Ngob has a good supply of boats to different parts of Koh Chang and other islands especially Koh Wai, Koh Mak, and Koh Kham. Taxi boats leave for Tha Dan Kao every hour during the high season from November to April and 5 times a day during the low season.
There are taxi boats leaving for Tha Dan Mai (New Post pier) and Tha Than Mayom as well but with less frequency. Chartered boats are also available.
